The Best Instagram Accounts to Follow for Outdoor Inspiration

The Best Instagram Accounts to Follow for Outdoor Inspiration Posted on April 14, 2020

We’ve probably been spending more time on Instagram than we’d like to admit these days but if you’re gonna waste time scrolling, you might as well get some inspiration for when it is finally time to get back outside. Here are some of my favorite accounts to follow on Instagram. Give em a follow for cute dogs, cool crags and all-around neature!

Arapahoe Basin

Following all the resorts you ride is a good idea because they post lots of updates (and secret burrito stashes) but I love ABasin’s account because of their somewhat irreverent approach and authenticity. They also share memes and lots of photos of the S&R dogs. What else do you use Instagram for other than dogs and memes?

Black Diamond

The best part about following a brand like Black Diamond is that they share snow AND rock content. What more could you want? Also, BD kills it every year for April Fool’s day.

Brianna Madia

This van-dwelling queen lives in and galavants around Utah in Bertha with her husband and 3 dogs. She’s funny and authentic and the dogs are very cute.

Cody Kaemmerlen

Cody is the host of the Wilder Mind podcast and does all the outdoor things. The best part about his posts? They’re actually pretty down to earth. No influencer-ism here, just good stories about a life outdoors.

Crag Dogs of Instagram

This isn’t an account but an individual #hashtag. The best part about following this tag? The variety of dogs! Big ones, little ones, old ones, young ones – but all good dogs.

Danny Davis

Danny Davis is known throughout the professional snowboarding community for his distinct riding style (especially on the Superpipe). I included him on this list because he shares a great mix of professional park riding with some of his epic backcountry lines, but he’s also pretty goofy and good for a laugh.

FERAL Mountain Co

Maybe this one is a little biased because I work here on the weekends, but the creatives behind FERAL have done a really great job at creating approachable inspiration. They highlight local adventurers and dogs, lots of dogs doing all sorts of cool things in the classic Feral Mountain Co hats and shirts.

Jeremy Collins

Jeremy is an artist who does all sorts of nature-inspired illustrations from animals and portraits to creatively drawn and painted landscapes. His account also has some great travel inspiration.

Jimmy Chin

Chin is the ultimate artist. Not only is he a NatGeo photographer and videographer, but he’s fully immersed in the lifestyle that he so painstakingly documents. He’s an alpine-mountaineering, backcountry-snowboarding, friend to Alex Honnold and Travis Rice.

The National Park Service

Beyond breathtaking photos of our National Parks, this account shares helpful information and can be sometimes pretty darn funny (in a nature-nerd way). While you’re at it, give all your favorite National Parks, Historic Areas, Scenic Areas, and National Forests a follow too.

Milly and the Tongue

Milly is a mini Boxer with an extra-large tongue. She and her human go on a lot of adventures, especially climbing ones. She’s a very good girl and deserves lots of scritches.

Pattie Gonia

A true character in the outdoor rec world, Pattie is a Drag Queen that takes her go-go boots all over neature. When not in drag, Pattie is also an LGBTQ+ advocate for equalizing access and for helping “Mother Natch” by reducing waste.

Paul Nicklen

Nicklen is another NatGeo photographer but more on the conservation side of things. He’s a co-founder SeaLegacy which is an artic ice preservation and education group. He has some of the most beautiful portraits of the wildlife above the Arctic Circle, especially polar bears. Also, he has 2 dogs that make regular appearances.

Ranchlands

Ranchlands is a working cattle ranch here in Colorado. This account gives you an awesome behind-the-scenes of farm life while being super informative. The real star of this account is the awesome portraits of horses. Growing up with horses (and being one of those weird horse girls), I know that they the most expressive faces and I love seeing the artistic approach to capturing these characters.

Topo is definitely on the style side of outdoor recreation lifestyles but their feed is colorful and has the perfect balance of outdoor and urban recreation inspiration.

Watson & Kiko

This dynamic duo is made up of matching(!!) golden retrievers, and their speckled dog brother and a hedgehog. They go on awesome adventures in the PNW and all over. To boot? Kiko is a tri-pawd which is extra cute and encouraging!
