“With great adventure comes great responsibility to store all of the necessary gear.” – No one
As hobbies turn into lifestyles, you’ll begin to accumulate A LOT of stuff. At first, we had a tent and some sleeping bags in our living room. That slowly grew into 3 bikes, 4 sleeping bags, 3 tents, a climbing rope, a full set of draws & anchors, 4 pairs of climbing shoes, 2 harnesses, 3 pairs of hiking boots, 2 coolers, a full camp kitchen (with service for 6 people), 3 air mattresses/sleeping pads, 4 chairs, 4 snowboards, 4 pairs of ski pants, 1 canoe paddle, at least 6 helmets, 15 water bottles and backpacks for ALL of it.
Storing & organizing your gear is imperative for being ready for adventure at all times. Having all your climbing gear or camping supplies in one, organized place is key. Personally, I have a backpack for each activity so I can be ready at all times.
Cody and I built this pegboard so we can horizontally store all our bags and odds-n-ends. We bought the whole board at Home Depot and used fence pickets as the spacers and to secure the board to the wall. There was a bit of a learning curve with the cheapo stud finder. After hanging the board, the trickiest part was organizing all the hardware and hangers to fit all the gear. We’ll change the gear up as the seasons change. It’s really helpful to see all your gear – this way nothing gets left behind.
We also installed this bike rack to keep the bikes up and out of the way. The shelf up top is helpful for the bigger things (like snowboard boots and my bike basket). We also have a big-ole-bin for car camping that holds all the tents, sleeping bags, and whatnot.
Our gear room is my favorite room in the house. It reminds me of all the opportunities we have and how lucky I am to live this life. I’m always ready for adventure because just getting out there is truly the best part of my week.
